It’s not everyday that someone with a resume that includes a career as an NFL player, best-selling author, and action movie hero also takes home an award at the country’s premiere contract furnishings trade show. While Terry Crews has tried his hand at many different things through the years, he has always had a passion for art and design. For his inaugural collection for Bernhardt, Crews envisioned what modern contemporary furniture would look like through the lens of Ancient Egypt. Inspired by the wildlife and landscape surrounding the Nile River, the collection includes the wing-shaped Ibis sofa, Float tables, Aire Benches, and Lillypad and Lily lounge chairs.
His work not only made New York magazine’s trendy Approval Matrix, but caught the eye of the judges at the NeoCon trade show taking place in Chicago this week, who awarded it an Editors’ Choice award in the lounge furniture collection category. I’m not sure what Crews is going to tackle next, but I’m eager to find out.
