In an interview for Domus magazine in 1995, renknowed designer Achille Castiglioni explained that the design for the Luminator lamp was intended to create a new “useful shape” to the Italian industry. Designed in 1954 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the light was awarded the Compass d’Oro, and became became part of the FLOS catalog as soon as the company was created in 1962.

The indirect, metal floor lamp consists of a detachable metal tripod and a tube wide enough to contain the lamp holder. Originally conceived in anthracite, Luminator comes in four new colors: lite blue, white, yellow, and red. It has also been updated with a LED light source and a dimmer pedal.
