Homeowners expect more out of their showers than ever before, with the integration of steam, light, and music into the showering experience no longer reserved for spas or luxury homes. With an iPad-like touch-screen display by industrial designer David Farrage — whose resume includes work with Movado watches and Lamborghini sport cars—Mr. Steam’s iSteam offers high-performance in wet environments. By simply tapping or swiping a finger on the moisture-proof control pad, users can control steam temperature, duration, aromatherapy, chromotherapy, or music.
Available in a black or white frame for around $1200, the iSteam features a 4.3” liquid crystal display screen that measures a mere 1/8” thick, sitting nearly flush with the wall when installed. According to the manufacturer, the iSteam microprocessor deciphers between a touch or drag of a finger to perform the correct action. Also, it’s tough. Manufactured with high-quality, fused silica glass and polished cast aluminum, iSteam has attained the high level ingress protection rating of IP-67, and is capable of full water immersion of up to three feet. While that’s impressive, if you had three feet of water in your shower you would probably have bigger problems than your steam bath controller malfunctioning.
