Introduced earlier this month during Milan’s Salone del Mobile, Moooi Carpets is a new company from the iconic Dutch furnishings maker offering a wide range of striking carpet designs and countless customizing possibilities. To create the incredible patterns and photo realistic designs with the illusion of depth, the company uses a groundbreaking, high-definition Chromojet printer that is the result of several million euros and two years of building and testing. Moooi’s huge carpet printing machine is incredibly fast and precise, and at 328-feet-long is capable of printing several 13-foot-wide colored designs without changing injectors.
The collection includes three different families: the Signature, Moooi Works, and Your Own Design. The surreal designs of the Signature Carpets convey a sense of depth, intensity, and motion. The family includes 48 eccentric carpets designed by renowned names of the design, fashion, and visual arts worlds such as Bertjan Pot, Broersen en Lukács, Edward van Vliet, Front, Jurgen Bey, Klaus Haapaniemi, Maison Christian Lacroix, Marcel Wanders, Marian Bantjes, Neri&Hu, Ross Lovegrove, and Studio Job. Next to these printed carpets, Moooi Carpets also offers five ‘jacquard’ woven carpets by Marcel Wanders, which reproduce flat woven designs of 3D images that appear to be literally carved into the carpets. The Moooi Works Carpets are a “basic” collection that includes a selection of straightforward, yet refined designs. The carpeting can be used as wall hangings as well —allowing them to be fully appreciated while keeping them safe from foot traffic.
